Who am I?

Claire Wheatley, CPA

Hi, I’m Claire—CPA, consultant, and creative. I’m also a former Division I athlete, a Deloitte alum, and now, the founder of CPA by Day, a practice built to help small business owners bring order to their finances without burning out in the process.

My career began in collegiate athletics, where I learned the value of discipline, endurance, and high performance—but also the toll it can take when your entire identity becomes consumed by achievement and competition. That experience shaped the way I now view balance: not as a luxury, but as a necessity for sustainability.

After college, I spent over six years at Deloitte as an external auditor, working with clients across industries and learning the intricacies of financial systems, operations, and cross-functional teams. I gained a deep respect for detail and accuracy, but also saw firsthand how unsustainable the pace could be when you are trying to “do it all.”

Today, I have found my passion supporting start-ups and small businesses. I am an Accounting Manager leading Incubator Services at a large family office. In this role I support early-stage and small but growing businesses with accounting, operations, and strategic guidance. It’s in this work, shoulder-to-shoulder with founders, that I’ve seen how the right systems can transform a business. Not just in spreadsheets, but in confidence. In clarity. In calm.

That’s what I bring to CPA by Day:
- Structure with room to breathe.
- Support that’s strategic and sustainable.
- A steady hand for people doing meaningful work.

I created this space to help ambitious people, especially those who feel overwhelmed, build financial systems that serve them, not stress them out. Whether you're here for a bookkeeping partner, a strategic sounding board, or just a little space to reset —
You’re in the right place.

But we’re so much more than what we do “by day.”
Outside of work, I’m most at home when I’m creating, moving, and helping uplift others. I crochet and knit almost daily, turning yarn into sweaters, stuffed animals, hats, and washcloths. Working with my hands on these projects gives me the calm my mind craves and a way to create just for the joy of it.

Movement is a grounding force that allows me to continue to explore my limits. I love strength training, trying new exercises at the gym, and (to my own surprise) I’m learning to love running. I’m currently training for my first marathon, a challenge that’s stretching both my mindset and my mileage.

I also serve as the Head Coach of a Women’s Flag Football Team as part of BvB Dallas a local non-profit organization. This role brings me full circle to my athletic roots, and allows me to make a difference through fundraising for Alzheimer’s and dementia-related causes, a mission that’s deeply personal and central to my core belief in community involvement.

These aren’t just hobbies. They’re how I stay connected to myself.

They’re how I live out the same balance, discipline, and joy I help others build in their businesses.
